Governor Profiles

Mrs Ruth Evans - Co-opted Governor - Chair

I joined Cotford St Luke Primary School in September 2018 as a Co-opted Governor and in September 2019 became Chair of Governors.

I moved with my husband from London to Somerset in July 2018 after working for 30 years in HR in both the private and public sector.  I was a school Governor at a West London girls' secondary school from 2010-2018, the last 2 years serving as Chair of Governors.

I also served as a magistrate for 13 years, sitting in both adult and family courts and I also sat on the Ealing Children Safeguarding Board for 3 years as a lay member.  I have also been involved with a number of organisations in the charity sector.

I have a post graduate diploma in personnel management and a degree in social policy and criminology.

I want to continue to provide support and expertise to the education sector and look forward to an ongoing positive relationship with the school.

Mrs Elizabeth Latham - Local Authority Governor - Vice Chair

I moved to Somerset 20 years ago and am married with 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

I have 30 years experience of working with children and families, both in the public and private sector and was tutor delivering early years and play work courses.

Whilst working at Somerset County Council I was part of the team delivering Sure Start and Children's Centres, but am now retired.

I currently sit on the Early Help Strategic Commissioning Board at Somerset County Council, this Board works in partnership delivering services to children and families across Somerset.

Currently I am a trustee with the charity Go Commando who support Royal Marines and their families, both serving and veterans.

I feel very privileged to be a Governor at the school and hold the post of Early Years and Safeguarding Governor.

Mr Adrian Jones - Co-opted Governor

I have been Deputy Headteacher at Cotford St Luke Primary School for 14 years and for the last 7 years also have the role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.  In addition, I am the Assessment Co-ordinator, Pupil Premium lead and NQT Induction Tutor and Keys Stage 2 Co-ordinator leading a team of 6 teachers.

My role is to assist the Headteacher to lead learning, support staff and children, improve standards and strive to make our school even better.

I have been at the school a long time and seen many changes, but love working here and helping to lead such a fantastic and hard working team as well as the wonderful children.

Mrs Alison Peart - Co-opted Governor

I am passionate about education and strongly believe that every child deserves an equal chance to access the school curriculum.

I have recently relocated to Cotford St Luke and have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren, 2 of which attend this school.

I have a background in finance and was previously a School Business Manager for 14 years in a large Infant school in Exeter.  I now work in finance for Somerset County Council in Children's Social Care.

During my time in Exeter I also served on the Governing Board for 11 years.

I am now Chair of the Finance/Staffing Committee and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with me to help this school on its journey to excellence.

In my spare time I enjoy singing in a Chorus, walking and spending time with my family.

Mrs Kate Lewis - Co-opted Governor

I was elected as Co-opted Governor in December 2019.  I live in Cotford St Luke and wanted to give my support to our local community and wonderful primary school.

My desire to be a Governor comes from my deep rooted belief in the importance of education for all.

I am a teacher and SENCo at a local primary school and have a wealth of experience of the education system and local area.  I have worked in education for 17 years, teaching across the whole primary range and leading on many aspects of school life.  My expertise lie in Early Years, SEN and School leadership.

I hope that my experience and knowledge can help support Mr Gilding and all of the staff and Governors to continue to develop what is already a good school into one that can be outstanding in many ways.

Mr Tony Davis - Parent Governor

My family and I relocated to Cotford St Luke in 2017 and our 2 eldest children attend the school and our youngest will attend Fledglings nursery in the future.

It is important with this in mind that I support the school community, as they will be helping to shape our children over the next 11 years!

In my role as Child Protection Officer for the Police, I have worked closely with schools and other agencies, safeguarding and protecting children, often dealing with life changing situations.  I believe my experience will help me in my role as Parent Governor, and being part of a team that helps guide the school through these social and economically challenging times.

Mr Glyn Tennet - Parent Governor

I live in the village and have 2 children who attend the school.  I have spent many years working in the NHS/Emergency services.  I am very much enjoying the challenge of school governance and look forward to helping the school achieve it's full potential.

My aim is to build relationships and good communications within the school encompassing parents and the wider community.

Mrs Rebecca Batten - Staff Governor

I have been the Staff Governor since 2017 and manage the Fledglings pre-school and extended day provision.

I have worked within Early Years for the last 23 years in a variety of different settings and am passionate about providing fantastic early years provision where learning is fun.

I am a Lead Practitioner for the Early Years Community for Wellington and Wiveliscombe ensuring we offer best training opportunities to other providers in our area, for our children feeding into our Taunton Vale Partnership schools.

I am also a Somerset Early Years Specialist (SEYS) supporting settings that are struggling following a difficult Ofsted or require support in a specific area.

I have 2 sons who keep me busy with lots of physical activity including swimming and walking.
