Using the Characteristics of Effective Learning 3 areas …
Play and Exploring
Active Learning
Creating and Thinking Critically
…the Nursery team aim to create a fun and stimulating environment where each child’s learning and development is supported effectively.
We recognise the fundamental role of play and multi-sensory exploration in children’s learning and offer children a range of stimuli, both indoors and out, to promote curiosity and engagement.
Through observation of children’s interests and developmental stages and discussion with families, experiences are planned across the seven areas of learning and development-
Prime Areas
Personal, Social and Emotional
Communication and Language
Physical
Specific Areas
Literacy
Maths
Understanding the World
Expressive arts and design
We aim to help children achieve this by:
Explore and make sense of the world
Practice new ideas and skills
Learn how to express and control feelings
Understand the need for rules
Be alone and co-operate with others
Take risks and make mistakes
Think creatively and imaginatively
Communicates with other as they communicate and solve problems
Children learn when they are:
Given appropriate responsibility
Allowed to make errors, decision and choices
Respected as autonomous and competent learners
Actively doing rather than being told
Supported and trusted by a knowledgeable and trusted adult
Daily Routine
Our simple daily routine allows children maximum opportunities to develop their understanding, to practise skills and to develop relationships within a consistent environment that supports security and promotes confidence.
The play space, both indoors and outside, is arranged in areas with appropriate resources stored nearby. These areas are reviewed through the year but generally include features of basic provision such as
Water
Sand
Construction—large and small
Small world
Physical—fine and gross
Creative
Malleable—sensory
Books
Music and Sound
Mark-making
Role Play
ICT
Mud kitchen
We aim to have a wide variety of activities available for your child when they spend time with us at Nursery.
The Session
We organise our sessions so that the children can choose from, and work at, a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities.
