Forest School
Forest School at Fledglings

We are very fortunate to have a weekly Forest School session in our on-site Forest School area. Located at the back of the school, this space is a small mixed woodland made up of oak, hazel and beech trees, providing a rich and stimulating natural environment for learning and play.
Our Forest School area includes a shelter, fire pit and pond. The gently sloped ground offers plenty of opportunities to challenge and develop children’s physical skills, confidence and resilience, while encouraging exploration and adventurous play.
Forest School sessions support hands-on, child-led learning and allow children to explore the natural world through a wide range of practical and creative activities, including:
Pond dipping
Bug hunts and building bug hotels
Sawing and safe tool use
Flower and leaf pressing
Creating clay models
Natural painting
Tree and leaf spotting
Collecting sticks and learning about fire safety
Making hot chocolate using a Kelly Kettle
Swinging in the hammock
Open-ended play using natural resources such as planks, cable reels, tarpaulins and ropes
Forest School encourages curiosity, independence and teamwork, while helping children develop a love and respect for the natural environment.
