  • The Reading Tree

    Thu 25 May 2023

As a whole school, we have read the book 'The Reading Tree' by Paul Czajak and it inspired us to create a book tree of our own in our library space. With lots of new books coming into our library - thanks to our sponsored read event for World Book Day - we wanted to create something as a whole school to demonstrate our love of books and reading! We think it looks marvellous and we can't wait to keep adding stories we write or love to it!

  • Go Create Art Project for the TYCA Festival

    Thu 18 May 2023

Maple and Sycamore Classes have greatly enjoyed working with Liz Hutchin and her team of artists, creating pieces on the theme of ‘Our Place’.

Our pupils have reflected on places that are special to them and the results are beautiful.  We are looking forward to seeing our work displayed as part of the Taunton Youth Culture & Arts (TYCA) showcase later in the summer.

  • Coronation Celebrations

Fri 05 May 2023 Nick Gilding

We were very sorry that rain put a stop to our plans to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III with a picnic for our children and families.  Rest assured though, we have still managed to mark the occasion.

The whole school, including Fledglings Pre-school, gathered in the hall, looking splendid in red, white and blue and sporting a dashing array of hats, crowns and flags.  We sang a rousing rendition of the National Anthem, accompanied by our amazing school band, and gave King Charles a magnificent three cheers.

After this, children have continued their celebrations in class, eating plenty and playing games - 'Pin The Crown On The King' being a particular favourite.

I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend, however you spend it.

  • Rejuvenated Pond

    Tue 25 Apr 2023

On Saturday 22nd April, a great team came together to tidy, and breathe new life into, our pond.  This is an area that has been in need of TLC for some time and it is the focus point of an exciting council-funded artistic project.

Full details of the long-term plan for the pond area can be found via the website of the artists involved, Denman + Gould  (https://www.denmangould.com/our-work/cotfordstluke).

On Saturday, our team did a fantastic job in renovating the pond itself.  We carefully preserved any wildlife (thanks Emma!) and we are looking forward to support from Somerset Wildlife Trust to ensure that this area develops as a haven for nature.

    Huge thanks to:

    Miss Knight

    Mr Payne

    Miss Roberts

    Mr Humphries

    Mr Tennet

    Emma Tennet

    Mrs Odams (project manager!)

And thank you to Mrs Kelly for the incredible cakes she dropped off to keep the team going!

I hope the photos below do justice to the work done.

  • New Welly Store

    Tue 18 Apr 2023

Thank you very much to two of our parents, Mr Tennet and My Illy, for generously giving their time, skill and materials to build a fantastic new welly store.  This will be a fantastic boost to our OPAL play ambitions.  When wet, children need wellies to be able to access the field.  However, we have struggled for storage space for the older children and this is a brilliant solution to the problem.

We are very grateful for the generous donation of £300 from local company, Low Carbon Exchange to cover the cost of materials.

    Thank you very much!

  • Concert 30th March 2023

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

Thank you to Mrs Venn & Mrs Lawrence for organising such an incredible concert.  We had 70-80 children from Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 performing in front of a delighted audience and it was a wonderful thing to behold.  Well done to all who played.

  • Thank you for the Music

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

I was delighted to take 25 children to Wellington School on Tuesday 28th March to take part in their annual Come and Sing event.  Our choir joined around 400 pupils from schools across Devon and Somerset to sing a selection of ABBA songs.  Over the years, I have taken groups to around ten of these events and I have to say, the singing this time was the best I have heard.  All our pupils gave their all and had a great time, belting out some classics, which involved some challenging harmonies at times.

Thank you to the group for making it such an enjoyable and special event.  Also, huge thanks to Mrs Bond for her help on the day.
