The Key Stage 2 topic this term is ‘The South West’. In order to make the related homework as engaging and relevant as possible to this theme, we ask pupils in Year 3-6 to complete the following:
Try to visit 4 or 5 fascinating, significant or special places in the South West of England. We would like pupils to present their thoughts, impressions or any research about these places in a way that appeals to them. This could be a set of annotated photographs; pamphlets designed by pupils, poetry or art. Please don’t feel limited and respond in a way that is enjoyable and engaging to you. The important thing is to try to explore some special places and spend time reflecting on them.
In Y5/6 our local history Topic is The Monmouth Rebellion. It would be fantastic if you could link some of your visits to places of significance from this event - for example, Market Cross in Taunton where Monmouth was crowned 'King' by the local people, the remains of Bridgwater Castle, the George Inn in Norton St Philip where an assasination attempt was made on Monmouth's life, Wells Cathedral where the rebels stole lead from the roof to make musket balls, Keynsham Bridge...and of course, Westonzoyland, where the final battle took place!
